James “Great James” Mitchell, AA
Construction Initiative Manager
James Mitchell began working with Mission Accomplished Transition Services in May 2018 as the Construction Initiative (CI) Manager. As the CI Manager he assists with three key areas when working with companies managing the renovation or buildings or residential developments: Workforce Development, Business Development and Community Engagement.
He is passionate and committed to ensuring that construction projects employ women and people of color and subcontract with Minority and Women Owned Businesses (M/WBE’s). He meets his passion and commitment by building relationships with the local labor trade union representatives on the project and the prime contractors leading the construction work, connecting individuals to the construction unions and encouraging M/WBE’s to become certified subcontractors on this major project.
James brings his many talents to the Mission Accomplished Transition Services team as a Community Advocate Manager. He began serving the City of Albany in 2010 at The Altamont Program and later moved to Albany Community Action Partnership (ACAP). In these organization he supported, and trained adults on how to re-enter the workforce. Helping them to develop their soft skills, and modifying their perspective on themselves and their potential. Through these positions James learned how to engage with the clients he was serving and also the entire City. He has developed working relationships with the community and a variety of organizations throughout Albany like Mission Accomplished Transition Services, Trinity Alliance, Catholic Charities, BOCES, Maria College and many more.
While working hard in the aforementioned positions, James developed an idea for a nonprofit organization. In 2011 he founded Young Futures, an organization that focuses on creating different art and educational programs, and encourage the conversation around mental health. Young Futures has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club, Sunnyside Center, Youth FX, Ben & Jerry’s and the Albany Barn. Young Futures holds after school programs, summer programs and weekend fun activities. James’s mission will always be based on family, growth, and partnership.
