Institute Summary
Since 2018, the Construction + Design Institute has provided ambitious early-mid career construction tradespeople, muralists, interior designers and interior decorators with an intentional and inspirational learning environment that promotes an “I Got This” mindset. Students are provided career and business education, coaching and mentorship that helps increase income, clarify brand messages, increase brand visibility and further develop their brand (personal and/or business), become more confident and knowledgeable when managing business operations and address trauma and limiting beliefs that affect success in the workplace.
Lastly we want to encourage and support more people, with a focus on the Black Indigenous Peoiple of Color communities, to take ownership of their voices in the Construction + Design industries while honoring ancestral legacies of the Black and Brown ancestors who built and beautified the United States.

Meet the 2023 Advanced Construction + Design Institute Class
Institute Details

Institute Description
Rising badass construction trades people, interior designers and decorators and muralists aged 18-35 enroll in this Institute to receive industry specific career mentorship and coaching from field experts.
We accept up to 8 emerging construction + design professionals and entrepreneurs serious about advancing their career or growing their small business. We invite individuals who are coachable, embrace honest feedback and desire to improve while bringing their career and/or small business to the next level.
Construction + design students will focus their attention on how to:
- Enhance their brand and influence
- Develop a better understanding of industry trends and how it operates
- Work alongside a community of industry professionals and peers who inspire forwarrd forward movement and advancement
Each Construction + Design Institute student will be paired with a coach to help with development and implementation of a 6 month action plan.
At the end of 6 months, we will celebrate and showcase the success of the students at the Construction + Design Showcase attended by area industry professionals, family and friends. Students present the goals they’ve achieved during the Institute, announce the additional resources they need to bring themselves to the next level and are awarded with a customized toolkit based on needs career advancement needs.
Ideal Candidates
Age: 18-35
Candidate Status: We are seeking motivated, coachable construction + design professionals and entrepreneurs who embrace honest feedback, desire to improve their skills and knowldge about the business behind the industry. Candidates must have 2+ years of experience plus a passion and desire to grow in the construction and/or design industries whether you:
- work for and support the growth of a small, medium or large construction, mural painting, interior design or interior decorating company
- offer freelance services in the construction + design industry or
- run a small business in the construction + design industry
You are currently in one or more of the following positions:

- Carpenter
- Metal Worker
- Painter
- Muralist
- Interior Designer
- Interior Decorator
- Blogger (must be covering stories on construction, interior design, interior decorating or mural painting industries)
- Graphic Designer (your clients must be in the construction, interior design, interior decorating or mural painting industries)
- Photographer (your clients must be in the construction, interior design, interior decorating or mural painting industries)
- Videographer (your clients must be in the construction, interior design, interior decorating or mural painting industries)
Institute Phases
PHASE 1: Mindset + Personal Development
You will address negative thoughts and unproductive patterns that prevents you from pursuing BIGGER dreams THEN set the groundwork for a successful, transformational 18 month learning experience.
PHASE 2: Customer/Client Identification
You will identify and define who their ideal customer/client is so they can create marketing content that converts into sales.
For those self-motivated employees out there, the company leadership team is your client!
PHASE 3: Marketing, Brand Development + Content Creation
You will further develop your personal and company brand message and identity while creating marketing content that sells. The coaches and marketing pros will help you develop content that talks to your ideal client and coverts sales!
PHASE 4: Team Development
Having a solid team of people who helps you meet and exceed your goals is CRITICAL to your success You will gain clarity and develop a plan to build an irreplaceable team that help you achieve your goals, remain accountable your vision and be able to complete the tasks you cannot.
PHASE 5: Visual + Verbal Communications
Visual and verbal communication stand out as two distinct, interconnected means of expression. As a growing thought leader in your fields it is critical you confidently express your thoughts and ideas to connect with others on a deeper level. You will enhance your ability to articulate your message in a way that drives people to take action. From creating stunning portfolios to developing persuasive slideshow presentations, you will enhance or create documents that will support you in successfully pitching your products or services.
PHASE 6: Financial Management + Sales
Understanding your finances will empower you to grow your revenue as an employee or entrepreneur. It is CRITICAL for you to have full knowledge of the expenses and revenue that help you elevate to the next level of your career as an industry influencer and authority. You will enhance your confidence and ability to create financial documents that will help you understand the value of your services, the true cost of production so you’re not short changing yourself which will all lead to more confidence in your sales.
PHASE 7: Public Speaking + Networking
Getting comfortable motivating groups of people to take action will bring you far. From 4 day business trips to meet us with other pros in your field, you will be put in poisition to showcase your confidence to publicly market your expertise, products and/or services. The opportunities we will curate will be your time to convey messages that motivates your audience to take action! You will bring the skills you learn during the Visual and Verbal Communication phase into real life.
PHASE 8: Accountability Mentorship
You will be paired with an accountability mentor to assure you continue to implement action steps related to the next level goals you established for yourself by the end of the first 6 months of the Institute. This mentorship will be provided for 10 months after the first 6 months of the Institute.
PHASE 8: Celebrate at the Showcase
After 18 months of hard work and dedication it is time to showcase your work.
YOU are worth the celebration!
We will host a public showcase that creates a platform for you to pitch your brand to industry pros and community members seeking to support your journey.

February: Mindset Retreat, an experience to prepare you for the Fashion + Beauty Institute lifestyle.
Part I: February – August | Part II: September – August
Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, every Monday and Tuesday
Application accepted October – December
Interviews conducted in November and December
Institute Tuition
$7,500 for entrepreneurs or employees paying themselves (true value: $39,000 per student; generous sponsors help allow you to pay 19% of the cost)
$20,000 for established businesses investing in their team members
Institute fee supports three 3 night/4 day retreats, intensive industry specific coaching and mentorship, supplies, workbook, dinner at each session, RT travel and overnight accommodations tour, Construction + Design tour* will be a 2 night/3 day business trip and 10 months of 1:1 mentorship from an industry professional following Part I of the Institute. PAYMENT PLANS ARE OFFERED.
The Construction + Design tour will be a 2 night/3 day business trip in Philedelphia that includes meetings with construction + design professionals creating innovative designs and structures.
